ABOUT ME
Hi, my name is Tara and I am the founder of Five Boys and a Business
Like most people, I started with little knowledge about how to set up a business and what it would entail. It all looks fairly straightforward to do from afar, but there is a little more entailed that you might actually believe. This is why I created Five Boys and A Business. I want to help YOU build your own successful business. Read on to find out more about me and why I know I can help you.
My business journey started when I founded the sleepover party business, Dreamee Teepees Slumber Parties. I was one of the first in the UK and certainly the first in Yorkshire, to be running this this type of business.
Dreamee Teepees Slumber Parties is now a multi-award winning business, most notably winning a prestigious competition, run by Theo Pathitis the well known BBC Dragon. Here is a picture of the moment the winners certificate was handed to me by Theo himself
Trust me when I say that when I originally started my first business it couldn't have come at a worse time in my life. My life was hectic, I spent more time at the hospital than I did at home. I had to change something in my life in order to survive, both mentally and financially. It was my eldest son, Kaeden, who actually came up with the idea of indoor tents for a sleepover with his friends to celebrate his birthday.
At the time I had 4 sons, 3 of whom were diagnosed with a rare lifelong blood condition called haemophilia. This means that they can suffer with internal bleeding in their muscles and joints.
One of those children was also diagnosed with a rare congenital heart condition which required him to have constant care and regular medication. This meant that we had quite a lot of hospital visits to attend to.
I needed a job or business that would enable me to give the boys the attention they needed whilst also being able to pay the bills. Some people thought I was crazy, but I knew I had no other choice. So I took a leap of faith and decided to turn my sons birthday party idea into a business.
Believe me when I say I had NO EXPERIENCE in running a business. I didn't have a clue and it took me a while to research things and get to the point where my business was earning a decent income. Along my journey I realised just how hard it was for other mums in my position to be able to set up and run PROFITABLE BUSINESSES.
This is why I decided to start Dreamee Teepees Academy. The aim was to help other mums, like you, have the freedom that I found with my Sleepover Business by using the teaching skills from my previous life as a teacher and my personal experience of running a business alongside a busy family life.
The results achieved and the reviews and testimonials I have received have blown me away. Take a look at some them below
When I originally started Dreamee Teepees Academy it was with the aim of teaching people how to build a successful and profitable Sleepover business. As time passed I was approached by mums who were wanting support in other sectors. They would ask me if I could help or if I could recommend anyone. I decided that opening up my coaching programmes would allow me to support those mums in need. However the name, Dreamee Teepees Academy, was already synonymous with the Sleepover and Events industry and so I decided to rebrand.
Having a large family is something I am very proud of. I love the hustle and bustle of a busy home. My five boys are the reason I started the business. My family is the driving force behind the business.
I thought it only right that I introduce them all to you.
My partner in crime and the father to all of our children is Ryan. He is AMAZINGLY SUPPORTIVE and the most wonderful Dad to our tribe.
Our eldest daughter is called Mimi. She is my bonus daughter who has the most amazing mum, whom we love. Mimi is currently training to be a Teacher and is idolised by her brothers. She is vivacious in life and has always known she wanted to become a teacher. I love how headstrong and determined she is.
Kaeden was the brain behind my first ever business. He is such an intelligent young man who astonishes us everyday. Kaeden is very determined to be the best in life he can be. He is working hard on his A Levels in order to get into medical school.
Our next child is called Rico. He lives, eats and breathes everything football. An avid Liverpool supporter who dreams of one day being a footballer himself. Rico's obsession with football started before he could even walk. Anyone who has met Rico would say that he is a smiley happy boy, who isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes.
Xander is the talkative, crazy and totally lovable boy drives us mad and makes us happy all in the same breath. Another football crazy boy who supports Leeds United (just as he should!) and seems to know as many football facts as an encyclopaedia. Xander is amazing with babies and young children and has just a gift of being able to win their hearts. As well as having Haemophilia, Xander also has congenital heart disease but doesn't let that stop him from doing anything!
Our two youngest boys are Emilio and Tiago. These two are the best of friends and can usually be found together playing or getting up to mishchief. With only two years in age between them, Emilio and Tiago were the babies I often took with me when setting up sleepover parties, or attending business events. They love been given jobs to do and will ask how they can earn money rather than asking if I will buy things for them. They have seen first hand how running a business can earn you money. Which is not an positive outcome I ever considered when starting my business.
What Does The Future Hold for Five Boys and a Business?
I don't know what the future holds, but what I do know is that I enjoy simplifying everything small business for busy mums.
Because of this, I intend to continue working to help mums earn a living around the needs of their families for as long as I can.
